It can be so hard to stay on a routine or on schedule of a “work day” when you work at home. Why?
Because you essentially have ‘all the time in the world’ to get things done over a day. If you’re not careful with your time however, you could end up at the end of the day with nothing done.
I’ve learned over the last couple years of working our business at home, I still have to set a routine every day-
- wakeup same time every day
- do all my morning rituals
- set a time to start and end my work day
- then I get to work!
I have to admit, I’m still figuring out best practice for myself, as many of you may be also. But I have found these things helpful as well-
- set time intervals for what you want to get done and when BEFORE you begin working
- do the most important things first thing in the morning when you have the most energy
- leave the mundane or less brain power needed tasks for the afternoon
- schedule in time for your housework and errands
- take a designated lunch break and a few 10-15 minute breaks during your work time
- stick to the schedule but be willing to be flexible if things come up
And don’t be afraid to adjust, readjust, and adjust your schedule again until you find what works best for you!
Once you have a consistent routine down, working from home becomes more productive and just like a normal office business day.
