So we created this group to share some of the info and tips we’re learning in a book we are reading called SLEEP SMARTER by Shawn Stevenson. We encourage you to get it some day and read it, as we are going to touch on just some highlights bc it would take forever to go thru it all.
A backstory on the author- he found himself with medical issues at a super early age of 20, but he reversed his issues with good nutrition, exercise, and you guessed it- SLEEP! Now he helps others!
Here are some rather alarming statistics for you all to ponder before we start-
Taking sleep medications, as little as 1 pill 20 times a year, has been shown in 3 large studies to be asscociated with increased mortality.
Your prescription sleep meds add only 30-40 minutes of sleep and not always quality sleep.
Sleep deprivation can lead to- immune system failure, diabetes, cancer, obesity, depression, memory loss, Alzheimers, and heart disease.
You age faster, have decreased sex drive- hello bc you too tired!, store more body fat, and it’s harder to lose weight.
Women who get fewer than 4 hours of sleep are 2x more likely to die early from heart disease.
Men are 2x more likely to have a heart attack and 4x more likely to have a stroke.
So if these stats don’t ‘wake us up’ and encourage us to sleep more and better, than I’m not sure what will.
Are you shocked by any of these, scared, realize maybe you need to take care of yourself by sleeping smarter?
I know it scared us!
