How To Fight Your Worst Enemy – YOU!!
Anytime you are pursuing a worthwhile goal, something that has a big reward at the end, maybe it’s pursuing a new skill for a job, a new job, a personal goal, personal skill, something that you see is this awesome amazing thing to accomplish, you will have opposition.
The biggest thing that challenges me in the pursuit of my goals, my biggest opponent, my biggest enemy 99% of the time is… MYSELF. Why? Because any other enemy I can walk away from. Any other enemy I can get away from or somehow retreat from or somehow fight off. But I live with myself. I live in my mind all the time. So when those defeating negative thoughts come up, they’re hard to deal with sometimes.
Here’s a couple of tips that help me to deal with these situations.
- Trigger Points
Knowing the things that trigger these negative thoughts and emotions. Know what those situations are that trigger those things, and often times you can hit it off before it even happens. Sometimes, it’s not necessarily that you can hit it off by knowing there’s trigger points, but when you expect something and you know it’s coming, it often times takes the power away from it because “oh, I expected that, so no big deal”, shove it off to the side.
- Fresh Perspective.
Take a step back away from the situation in order to clear your head, and get a fresh perspective. Step away from it for a minute, and get out of your own head. Do just a few minutes of some mindless activity, just to focus dead center on something, other than those negative thoughts and those doubts and those fears and those things that try to derail your progress by derailing your attitude.
Your attitude can make or break your day, make or break your goal, if your attitude is bad, you’re not going to want to be creative, go after that idea, or go after that goal. You need that positive attitude, you need that creative attitude. You need that attitude that says “I’m going to keep going, no matter what.”
