Now you may be wondering why in the world do I have a picture of me and one our dogs when talking about wives. Men, don’t go there! Just stay with me!
This is Evie Roux… and she is very special little girl. You see, Evie is what we call a “special needs” dog.
Please understand, I mean this in no joking way nor to make light of those with special needs. Evie is very different than your normal dog.
But, Evie doesn’t process her stress the same as most dogs you may know. Many don’t know this but Evie and I had a VERY rocky 1st couple years because I didn’t realize that she had a VERY different set of needs that didn’t know existed for a dog. At one point I almost threatened to send her back to our friend where we got her.
Well, it took time and me learning patience and understanding, as well as learning HER… and this, this is the result… a loving and affectionate dog who loves playing with her “daddy” and snuggling with her momma… and well Meeko, her “brother…” he gets away with more than any of us could!
I put a TON of time, effort, patience, understanding, and even a little blood, into making things better for the relationship we have now. I can read her like a book and often know before she does when she’s going to be stressed out and possibly react.
I became a student of my little girl! In fact, by now I’ve earned my Master’s Degree in all that is Evie Roux Martin.
What would life be like if we all put that effort
into becoming a student of our spouse? How would life be if we spent that kind of time getting to know our what THEY need, what makes THEM tick… their “tells” when they are unhappy, stressed, worried… or even when they’re happy, fulfilled… when they feel loved?
Become a student of your spouse today and learn something new that you didn’t know yesterday then tell us what it is in the comments. Every day study how she reacts to things however how small. Ask her questions! Read the Instruction Manual… YES, there is one!
Trust me, there is ALWAYS something new to learn about them!
